I had kids birthdays to celebrate, work commitments, allergies that turned into a head cold, being a supportive parent through my daughter’s college application process…
Yep. I had excuses.
Life always gets in the way. Life is never not going to get in the way.
I thought it was a good time to check in on Stephen R. Covey’s classic, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
Procrastination is not one of them. Nor is being easily distracted by breaking news – and we’ve had a lot lately.
And in these quarters, Bethenny Frankel returning to Real Housewives of New York was a lean in story.
I auditioned Bethany for a WE project in 2006 after she was on Martha Stewart’s Apprentice. I have no recollection of this. Thank god for session sheets and Sean De Simone who has a great memory.
Did I digress? There was lots of discussion back and forth on my Abel Intermedia Facebook Community Page. Pro and Con.
Here’s the thing of it: There are 2 Habits of HIGHLY Successful TV Hosts:
Successful people like to work.
To paraphrase Carrie Fisher, successful people do not suddenly stop and say, “Yay! I’ve arrived. Now I can take a nap.”
Successful people are good at dusting themselves off after their careers and their egos have taken a bruising.
Before the Internet, social media and American Idol, Ryan Seacrest had two (2) failed TV talk/entertainment shows.
At the time (late 90s/early 00s), RS had the #1 drive time radio show in Los Angeles, the #2 market in America. He was successful in radio – and making bank. After not one but two failed projects it would have been perfectly reasonable to say maybe TV’s not for me.
No matter how awesome and talented someone is, when you mention their name in a meeting and they have two tanked shows to their credit, executives tend to be dismissive, “yeah, but his show failed.”
Ryan must have heard that a lot. It’s not fun.
Still, RS and his team kept the faith and soldiered on and he landed a holding deal at Fox.
So I’m cutting Bethenny some slack and hoping she finds her voice again while she stirs the pot on RHONY.
