I had the pleasure of prepping a client over the weekend for the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit today.
It’s a side bonus to be inspired by the people you work with. I am grateful – and impressed. Not the least because I really didn’t have it together in my 20s.
I love to joke about all these lists I’ll never be on (100 under 100 – maybe? One day?) so today I celebrate my own list: 50 Over 50. Women who are making things happen, comfortable with their power and absolutely relevant.
If you watched the Emmys last month you might have noticed something extraordinary: All the women over 50 winning awards and making history: Allison Janney, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lisa Cholodenko, Frances McDormand, Jane Lynch, Jill Soloway, Viola Davis…
In my heart, Lily Tomlin won for Grace and Frankie. Maybe next year with Jane Fonda and creator Marta Kauffman.
Thrilled to see Sandra Bullock is back with Our Brand is Crisis (my kinda movie!) and Julianne Moore will be everywhere this fall. Same with Susan Sarandon.
Happy Vanessa Williams got the apology she deserved. Lucky us she never let it hold her back.
Did I mention Monica Belluci is a 51-year old Bond Girl in Spectre?
And 90 year-old Cicely Tyson is on Broadway??
Although Fashion and Beauty are forever youth obsessed, mature gals are the gatekeepers: Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Glenda Bailey, Joanna Coles, Mindy Grossman…and have huge impact: Miuccia Prada, Carolina Herrera, Iman, Vera Wang, Betsy Johnson and of course, Diane Von Furstenberg embracing reality television and teaching us so much about life and business.
Hillary Clinton gets a lot of airtime. How about these smartest people in any room: Angela Merkel, Elizabeth Warren, Louise Richardson, Loretta Lynch, Michelle Obama, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Shout out to the women who went from idea to industry: Arianna Huffington, Barbara Corcoran, EL James, Ellen Degeneres, Ina Garten, JK Rowling, Joy Mangano
And of course, all hail the Queen Elizabeth and her madgesty Madonna.
In a league of their own: Betty White, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Martha Stewart, Meryl Streep, Oprah.
It’s kind of an awesome thing there are way more than 50 women who belong here. Let me know who you would add to your list.

I would add Jocelyn Greenky to the list 😉
I’m a 50+ yr old actress, TV/ Radio host, comedienne and writer… so I was inspired by this! I wrote this comic blog piece , “Stop Calling me Ma’am!” when I turned 50. It was in Huff Post. Talked about it on my radio show with lots of funny feedback. Hope you’ll take a few minutes to have a good laugh!
