I am pleased as punched it’s Memorial Day Weekend and finally safe to take my winter coat to the dry cleaner.
Although the Solstice is not until June 21st and New York City Public Schools are in session until June 26th (!!!), New Yorkers know Memorial Day Weekend as the official start of the Summer Season.
A favorite ritual of mine going back to high school is the Summer Reading List. What’s on your reading list this year??
I’m kicking off with Sue Monk Kidd’s latest, The Invention of Wings, which explores the relationship between an 11-year old slave and the 11 year-old girl who owns her.
Also on my list:
#GirlBoss by NastyGirl founder Sophia Amoruso, The Heist by Daniel Silva, Another Bullshit Night in Suck City by Nick Flynn (recommended by my 17 year old daughter) and But Mama Always Put Vodka In Her Sangria by Julia Reed.
If you’re wondering how this is relevant, reading improves your vocabulary which is hugely important if you are a host, guest expert or do any kind of presentations in your work.
It also makes you more interesting, broadens your worldview and gives you more things to talk about at parties. Thanks for asking!
